ADT Exception: com.android.dx.util.DexException: Multiple dex files define …

I’ve spent hours trying to resolve this problem when launching an app. I followed plenty of misleading posts…

In my case it ended up to be a *.apk file hiding in a project.

I deleted the file, then bounced Eclipse. All working again. I hope this saves your day…

  1. Same problem, your solution got me to the next problem, which wasn’t anywhere near as difficult to solve. Was up and running again soon after that. Thanks!

You just saved me a few hours of digging around. Tried just about every google search related to ‘multiple dex files, etc, etc’ yesterday. Reinstalled ADT & Eclipse with no luck.

Tried your tip, found an APK hiding deep in my project — removed it, restarted Eclipse, and it worked.

    Cheers!
